Catch Up | Rein Tension Study | Myth Busting Marketing
It has been quite the hot minute
Hi horse people! It has been a while since my last newsletter, it has been a bit mental around here. I always notice when the season changes and March kicks off, the craziness ensues.
So, what’s been happening?
On the horse front, all ponies are doing well and my Thoroughbred Narayan looks unreal! If I say so myself. The two cob mares are doing their usual stint in the pen, as the grass is just too rich for them and their waistlines.
My masters is progressing well. After what felt like an age, I finally got the go ahead to start testing at the end of March. We have conducted two days of testing/pilots and doing another day soon, as there was a few bumps in the road (that’s research!). More details on that later :)
Myth Busting Marketing
I wrote a piece about equine calmers for Equiflexx (more details below), but after reading about one of the calmers, I had to make a post about it. The marketing is quite misleading, so I was compelled to highlight it.
Read about it below
Re-sharing Rein Tension Post
Last year a study was conducted investigating rein tension on double bridles (bridoon and curb reins) and snaffle bridles (unpublished). The news outlets and social media comments seem to run on the theme that double bridles are “nicer” than snaffle bridles. This was because the study concluded that double bridles incur lower rein tension than snaffles. But what we must remember is that rein tension is applied to the rein, not what’s applied to the mouth by the bit. The study has now been officially published, so I thought it was worth a re-share.
New post on Equiflexx Stable Insights
I have made a new post on Stable Insights all about equine calmers. The post covers:
Do calmers work?
What are the active ingredients?
What to brands and science say?
Become a Stable Insights member and be able to access the post.
As always if you would like to support my work you can buy me a coffee (or tea!) below. I can tell you my horses will thank you. Do check out the ebooks and lectures over on the online shop section too.
